Social media can affect the way the job industry ‘works.’ An employer can use social sites to advertise their job openings. Employers also use background searches of a person’s social media to decide if they should hire the candidate or not. The amount of companies that look at social media sites for background checks have increased steeply from 2008 (34%) to 2013 (77%).

Using social media can have positive and negative affects on a person’s job life. Social media spreads information quickly which can be helpful or hurtful depending on what is put online. Do you think companies should use social media in background checks? Would you want your future or present boss following you on Instagram, Twitter, or Tumblr?
